In Pictures: Supertram rail replacement on Holme Lane

The weekend of Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June saw more improvement works take place on the South Yorkshire Supertram network with new rails being laid along Holme Lane. The work meant that Blue route trams could not run to Malin Bridge and so they were diverted to run to the usual Yellow route Middlewood terminus, leading to the unusual sight of trams apparently on the Yellow route on sections of the line usually not served by that route.

The citybound track is being attended to here on Saturday 29th June with the old track having already been removed from its grooves and the new track now waiting to be put into place.

Another photo taken on Saturday 29th as work progresses on the track replacement.

Sunday 30th and contractors from Volker Rail continue the work with some of the finishing touches being put here to the new track.

New track in place just waiting for barriers to come down and trams to start running again. This is the Malin Bridge bound side.

Displaying the Yellow route Middlewood destination, 109 has come from Halfway with a Blue route service when seen at Sheffield Station.

124 arrived at Middlewood displaying a Yellow route destination but would depart firmly with a Blue route Halfway service displayed. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke)
