In Pictures: The adverts keep on coming for Manchester Metrolink

It seems that there aren’t many weeks where we’re not reporting on a new advert for Manchester Metrolink and so it is that we again head to the northwest to see a couple of new advertising liveries – one which seems to be so high-profile that it involved a press release!

We guess that when you are advertising a UK television institution you want to shout about it and so it is that TfGM have told the world that Manchester Metrolink now have a tram with vinyls for the Coronation Street Experience. The fact that Corrie has now chosen to advertise on a tram (with the advert expected to last at least a year) is a bit of an about turn as well considered ITV had objected to the construction of the Trafford Park line because of its proximity to the set and the noise they said would disrupt filming.

The tram which now carries adverts for the Coronation Street Experience – which is located close to the Imperial War Museum tramstop – is 3095. This is that tram’s three advert but the first for almost six years having previously advertised Raytheon Software Engineers (December 2016-May 2017) and Key 103 (May-October 2017).

3095’s advert features some brickwork and a variety of colours as it promotes the Coronation Street Experience for visitors who want to see behind the scenes of the long running Soap Opera.

Although this is the first time that Coronation Street has advertised on a tram in Manchester they were honoured in 2010 by the naming of 3009 “Coronation Street 50th Anniversary 1960-2010”. And its not the first all over advert for a Coronation Street type attraction with Blackpool’s  Centenary Cars 646 and 647 carrying ads for the World of Coronation Street back in 1995-1997 (647 saw its adverts removed a year earlier).

3095 may be enjoying its first advert in six years but the other new advert is on a tram which has certainly become no stranger to carrying them! 3047 has been more or less constantly carrying ads since April 2023 when it received a design for Soccer Aid and since then has seen four further ads with only very small gaps between each of them. It only recently lost an ad for the AO Arena (March-June 2024) but is now carrying a wrap for KFC which asks you to “Believe in Chicken”!

“Believe in Chicken”! 3047 and its new advert are seen at Deansgate-Castlefield. They are off to Altrincham.

This is the Coronation Street Experience advert on 3095 with the tram also at Deansgate-Castlefield. Appropriately it is on The Trafford Centre route and will pass the attraction it is advertising.

The other end of this side of 3095’s advert is seen which includes the website address to find out more about the experience.

Not previously noted is that 3116’s advert for Chester Zoo also includes internal advertising such as this Penguin on the ceiling! (All Photographs by Reece Hughes, 21st June 2024)
