In Pictures: Progress continues on Dudley extension

The wording on the Midland Metro Alliance website may now have changed to “expected to open within a year” rather than claiming it will be open by the end of 2024 but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t work still going on in the construction of the West Midlands Metro extension to Dudley (and then a phase two onwards to Brierley Hill). This pictorial article takes a look at some of the recent work in and around Horseley Road.

Horseley Road is towards the start of the line at the Wednesbury end and the second stop (the first being at Great Bridge) will be located here. Recent progress on the construction has seen the trackbed now having a membrane laid with loose aggregate now being put on top of this. Presumably following the completion of this stage it will reach the time that track can start to be laid and the stop here can also be started on in earnest.

Taken from Horseley Road bridge this is the view towards New Bridge (Great Bridge) showing the membrane which has now been put down.

Another view of the recent progress looking towards Dudley Port.
