Blackpool Tramway - North Station extension opening

June 2024 finally saw the much delayed opening of the North Station extension on the Blackpool Tramway. The approximately 600 metre extension is double track throughout and leaves the Promenade line by way of a junction at North Pier running through Talbot Square (where there is a single platform stop) and then up Talbot Road to a new terminus close to Blackpool North Railway Station.

This collection starts with a few shots of the latest round of testing and driver training which took place from April 2024 before we get to the main events surrounding the opening. On Wednesday 12th June this saw a special trip running from Starr Gate to North Station for competition winners. The next two days then saw further special tours running on the extension along with the option of depot tours at Starr Gate before Saturday 15th June saw the first heritage tram with passengers on the extension as Balloon 700 ran another series of tours. Finally, Sunday 16th June saw public service commence with a new timetable in operation.

* Video of the new extension in action can be found on Podbaba Transport YouTube channel.
